Find Out What You Can Buy
Before you head to the bank, you may want to do some preliminary research into what price range you can buy. There are several home affordability/mortgage calculators online that can give you a ballpark figure.
When you are ready to get into purchasing, you will have to pay a visit to your bank to be prequalified or pre-approved. Your bank will look at your financial information and let you know how much money they can offer to you, so you will be aware of your price range. Being pre-approved is more intensive, looking at your specific financial documents, and may come with a time limit on how long you will be pre-approved for before you have to go through the process again, so be sure you are ready to jump into buying before taking this step.
